Campaign Printing Checklist: Yard Signs, Door Hangers, Palm Cards and Mailers

A local campaign typically needs four printed pieces: yard signs for name recognition, door hangers for canvassing, palm cards to hand out, and a mailer to reach every household in the district. A starter set of 50 yard signs, 2,500 door hangers and 2,500 palm cards costs $1,388 to print.

1. Yard signs

Signs are how most voters first see a candidate's name. Keep them readable from a passing car: the name large, the office, and one short line such as "for City Council."

  • 24″ × 18″ on 4mm corrugated plastic (Coroplast), printed on both sides
  • 10 for $150, 20 for $300, 30 for $450, 40 for $600, 50 for $750

2. Door hangers

Canvassers leave a door hanger when no one answers, which is most doors. Door hangers need no postage and give room for a photo, three issues, the voting date and a website.

  • 4.25″ × 11″: 2,500 for $409, 5,000 for $659, 10,000 for $849
  • 3.5″ × 8.5″ (budget size): 2,500 for $327.20

Door hangers go on the door handle, never in the mailbox.

3. Palm cards

Palm cards are pocket-size handouts for events, farmers' markets and door-to-door conversations. A 4″ × 9″ card fits a shirt pocket: 2,500 for $229 (pay for 1,000, get 1,500 free). Palm cards are too small to mail by EDDM, so they are for handing out only.

4. A mailer to every household

An EDDM postcard reaches every address on the carrier routes you choose, with no voter list needed. It reaches every household, not only registered voters, so it works best for name recognition and reminders about voting dates. A 6″ × 11″ postcard qualifies for EDDM: 10,000 for $799. Before anything prints

  • Disclaimer: include the "Paid for by" wording your race requires. Rules differ for federal, state and local races, so check with your state election office. We print exactly what is on your approved proof.
  • Consistency: the same colors, photo and name treatment on every piece, so voters connect them.
  • Proofread names, dates and web addresses twice.
  • Turnaround: election season is busy, so call to confirm current turnaround and order early.
