Houston is a big market, so mail it in pieces
Houston is the largest of the four Texas cities on this site, and its size changes how a business should spend on print. Nobody mails the whole city. A Houston business picks the neighborhoods around its location or service area and saturates them, repeatedly.
We print everything a Houston business uses for that: take-out menus and table tents, postcards and EDDM mailers, door hangers, business cards, brochures, vinyl banners, yard signs, NCR forms and catalogs, all shipped from our Arlington, Texas hub.
The size of the Houston market
The 2020-2024 American Community Survey counts 930,404 households in Houston and 2,328,253 residents. Owner-occupied homes number 391,519, or 42.1%, and 444,742 of 1,040,576 housing units are single-family detached homes, 42.7%.
The median home was built in 1982, so much of the single-family housing is old enough for regular roof, air-conditioning and plumbing work.
With 930,404 households, even a large 10,000-piece mailing reaches only a small slice of the city. That is a reason to pick routes carefully, not to mail more widely.
Menus and table tents for Houston restaurants
Harris County had 3,574 full-service and 3,958 limited-service restaurants in 2023, according to County Business Patterns, the most of the four counties on these pages. In a market that crowded, the take-out menu in a household's kitchen drawer is often what decides where they order from.
The Gold EDDM package is an 8.5″ × 11″ vertical bifold menu that mails through EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) to every address on the carrier routes in your delivery area. 10,000 cost $679. Inside the restaurant, 4″ × 6″ table tents sell desserts, drinks and catering, and 2,500 cost $695.
Together that opening order prints for $1,374 before shipping. See restaurant printing for menu sizes and timing.
Other Harris County trades we print for
Harris County's 2023 business counts, for employer establishments only:
- Dental offices: 2,302. New-patient postcards, appointment cards and front-desk table tents. See dental practices.
- Insurance agencies and brokerages: 1,922. Quote-request postcards and coverage brochures. See insurance agents.
- Real estate offices: 1,712. Farming postcards, yard signs and business cards.
- Home services: 1,187 plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors, 677 landscaping services, 301 roofing contractors and 174 pest control services. Door hangers and EDDM postcards.
Sole proprietors without employees are not counted, so each trade has more competitors than these figures show.
Brochures, cards and catalogs for Houston offices
Houston's dental offices, insurance agencies and real estate brokerages hand out as much print as they mail. Standard 3.5″ × 2″ business cards on 16pt stock cost $69 for 2,500, and an 8.5″ × 11″ trifold brochure that explains services, coverage or financing costs $349 for 2,500.
For a longer product or service list, a saddle-stitched catalog keeps everything in one booklet. The 8.5″ × 11″ catalog starts at 2,500 for $1,289. See catalogs and business cards for all sizes.
Signs, banners and job-site printing
Houston contractors and event organizers use yard signs and banners to be seen from the street. 24″ × 18″ yard signs printed on both sides with H-wire stakes cost $150 for 10, and vinyl banners are $5 per square foot with a second banner free.
Field crews writing tickets on site use 8.5″ × 11″ NCR forms, carbonless sets with a customer copy and an office copy. 1,000 2-part sets cost $279, with 3 and 4-part sets and numbering available.
Planning a Houston mailing by route
On the USPS EDDM map, search the ZIP codes around your business and select carrier routes using the household counts and the age and income filters. Start with the routes closest to you and add more as results come in.
EDDM Retail allows up to 5,000 pieces per ZIP code per day per mailer, so a large Houston mailing across several ZIP codes may need more than one drop-off. Shipping 5,000 6″ × 11″ postcards to ZIP 77002 costs $159.75 from Arlington. Price the whole mailing with the EDDM cost calculator and call 512-573-1977 to confirm turnaround.
