Why lawn care marketing starts on your own streets
The cheapest new lawn care customer is the house next door to one you already mow. It adds a stop to a route your crew is driving anyway, so the time and fuel cost of that customer is close to zero. Printed marketing for this trade is mostly about density, not reach.
Neighbors notice the yards that look good. A door hanger the day your crew finishes the street, saying "we already service this street on Tuesdays", answers the two things a homeowner wants to know: are they reliable, and will they fit me in.
Wider mailings still have a place. They open a new neighborhood where you have a few customers, and they sell seasonal services to the whole area at once.
Door hangers, postcards and signs for lawn and landscaping crews
- Door hangers on serviced streets. A 4.25″ × 11″ door hanger hung by the crew on the same visit costs nothing in postage and arrives while the finished lawn is right there as proof. 5,000 cost $659, enough for a full season of weekly routes for a small company.
- EDDM postcards to whole routes. A 6″ × 11″ postcard through EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) reaches every address on the carrier routes around your strongest streets, so you can fill gaps between existing stops. 5,000 cost $639.
- Yard signs at showcase jobs. A sign on a newly finished landscaping project, with the homeowner's permission, works for weeks. Our 24″ × 18″ signs come with H-wire stakes, 10 for $150.
Use a different offer on each piece so you can tell which one brought the call.
A lawn and landscaping print calendar
- Late winter: EDDM postcard selling the season's mowing program and spring clean-up, so customers sign up before the first cut.
- Spring and early summer: door hangers on every serviced street, every week the crew has stock.
- Late summer: aeration and overseeding offers to existing streets, a natural add-on for current customers' neighbors.
- Fall: leaf removal and the next season's early sign-up offer.
In warm climates with year-round growth, the calendar flattens, and steady door hangers matter more than the spring push.
Offers that fit a route business
A first-cut discount works, but a seasonal program sign-up works better, because it fills a route for months rather than one visit. Print the program clearly: what is included, how often, and how billing works.
Show the days you are already in the neighborhood. It is the one thing a large competitor cannot easily match, and it tells the homeowner you will show up. Add your phone number, a photo of your crew or truck, and the services you offer beyond mowing, such as mulch, hedges or clean-ups.

Choosing streets by route density
Route density is the share of homes on a street that you service, and every extra stop on a street you already drive is more profitable than a new street across town. Mark your current customers on a map before you choose where to mail.
Pick the carrier routes that contain your strongest streets, then mail those routes first. A route with five customers already on it will fill faster than an empty route, because neighbors see your crew every week.
Avoid spreading one mailing across distant areas just to reach more homes. Customers scattered across the county add drive time that eats into what each one earns.
Selling add-on services to current customers
Your current customers are the easiest sale for aeration, mulch, hedge trimming and leaf removal. A door hanger left on their own door after a visit, with the add-on and its price, reaches someone who already trusts your crew.
Time each add-on to the moment it makes sense: mulch in spring, aeration and overseeding in late summer or fall depending on your grass type, and leaf removal as the trees turn.
What a season of lawn care print costs
A season's order for a small crew: 5,000 4.25″ × 11″ door hangers ($659), 5,000 6″ × 11″ EDDM postcards ($639) and 10 yard signs ($150). The printing total is $1,448 before shipping.
Use the EDDM cost calculator to add shipping and USPS postage for the routes you mail. For the break-even calculator, use the profit from a full season of service, not one cut, since that is what a new route customer is worth.
